Who we are
JANET WEST
Flow Your Own Way Founder and Managing Director
BSc., MPhil., PGDip. PGCert
The Flow Your Own Way Project was developed by Edinburgh-based practioner, Janet West who has worked in healthcare, PR, research and teaching as a dietitian/nutritionist for many years. During this time, she maintained an active interest in theatre, play and the expressive arts and their impact upon individuals and the community as vehicles for reflection and change. She volunteered with Lung Ha’s theatre company (for people with learning difficulties) in the 1990s and was inspired by the voice and confidence it gave its members.
She went on to qualify with a Postgraduate Certificate in Community Theatre and lead drama workshops with community groups and young people.
Following a protracted illness triggered by trauma and struggles in early life, she gained insight into the power of her own inner resilience and self belief.
The Flow Your Own Way Project, with its unique experiential workshops, evolved from Janet’s fundamental belief that our innate resourcefulness, equips us to manage life’s challenges in individual ways. An accredited facilitator in wellbeing and resilience training, she passionately believes this life-changing understanding opens doors, helping us thrive and reach our true potential. She is committed to passing this knowledge on to young people, encouraging them to build awareness of their inner resources and strengths.
Janet is also the mum of two young children and owns a lively black and white whippet called Lulu. She enjoys long walks with her dog, dancing, singing and being silly with her kids! “Play makes me really happy and energised. Activities like hide and seek, leap frog or even just kicking a ball around with the children, often bring me into a state of flow,” she says. She also takes acting classes in her spare time.
